Just some things that have been inspiring me over the last month!

This is a new obsession. I went into a Follies deep dive around this time last year and absolutely fell in love with the show and the concept. It’s a dream show of mine to both direct and act in, but this duet is just a standout on its own. It’s sweeping, it’s romantic, it’s intricate and symbolic. The way the final chorus just builds and builds until it’s drawn back to an intimate moment between our two lovers. My poor neighbors are probably sick of me singing “Sally standing at the dooooooor” 50 million times this past afternoon, but oh, it’s so satisfying!!

Too Many Mornings from Follies

Now I know The Real Housewives may not be considered the most captivating of TV viewing, but it sure is the modern day soap opera. I’ve been rewatching Seasons 2 and 3 and boy, is there drama. It’s honestly nice to have a comfort show that can allow you to totally dissociate from what is going on in your daily life. I think a RHONY rewatch is next in the cards for me…

Dinner With Friends by Donald Margulies

THIS PLAY! People, it seems that I was living under a rock before I read this. I’ve been on this kick where I try to read a play a day and it’s so fun to just pick up random titles and see if it’s something that vibes with me. This play had been in my TBR list (I can’t remember how it got there, sometimes it’s from friends, the internet, Instagram, I never can tell) and I devoured it. The only other Margulies play I had read was Time Stands Still which I really enjoyed so I was looking forward to this one. It was so readable in a way that I could see it being performed in my mind’s eye. Every character was so fleshed out and I just wish I could see it on a real live stage! A new favorite, for sure.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

I was only recently introduced to Kingsolver’s work by way of a friend I made at a book signing and found a copy of this at a second hand book store out on LI. This story is captivating and heartbreaking all at the same time. You feel so deeply for Demon that every next thing that happens, you just want to give him the deepest embrace and hope that it will get better as the pages go on. I’m almost halfway and I simply hope it never ends.
